COUPLES PORTAITS

We laugh because before almost every engagement session, we recieve a text from the bride that says, "Just so you know, we're really awkward in front of the camera."
Well guess what- I don't know many couples who are used to being snuggled up and sharing intimate moments while someone sits with a camera in their face... so we totally get it!
While we are confident your engagement session will be an enjoyable (even fun! I promise) experience, we've put together this little guide to put you at ease and answer any questions you may have leading up to that day. As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We're here to make everything as easy as possible. :)

What to expect:

All of our engagement sessions begin two hours before sunset. Two hours gives us just the right amount of time to meet up and get to know each other a little bit, hike out to our location, and shoot until the sun goes down. You can expect to do lots of hiking, running around, dancing, snuggling up together, sitting, standing, etc. We'll have you play silly games together, ask each other questions, and give you space to just be close. We don't expect the two of you to model (in fact, we don't want you to model)... but to just enjoy each others company while we document this part of your story.

Location:

Choosing a location for your photos can be a little daunting. There are so many beautiful places to choose from (especially here in Arizona). We feel most inspired hiking around in nature and love the wind and intimacy that shooting on a mountaintop or the middle of a desert canyon lends. Here are some locations we love to shoot:

Lost Dutchman State Park
South Mountain
Lockett Meadow, Flagstaff
Mogollon Rim, Payson
Grand Canyon National Park
Horseshoe Bend
Antelope Canyon
Saguaro National Park
Imperial Sand Dunes
Joshua Tree National Park
Sunset Cliffs, San Diego
Zion National Park
Bryce Canyon
Mt.Lemmon
Coal Mine Canyon

Some of our couples opt for in-home sessions if your space allows (white walls, LOTS of natural light, and minimalist decor work best). We're also open to checking out new places that mean something for our couple- whether it be a spot you've camped, a place you're dying to visit, etc. Just ask!

What to wear:

Our two biggest suggestions for our couples are something you feel confident in and something you feel comfortable in. Hiking around in a short dress and heels is not super practical. Feel free to layer up in clothes with lots of texture- whether it be a cozy tee and a denim jacket with some black jeans and cute boots or a cable knit sweater with distressed denim shorts. Distracting patterns and bright colors generally DON'T photograph well. We highly recommend earth tones. If you'd like to also bring a killer boho dress and run around barefoot, we're down with that too. :)

Shoes you can hike in are a MUST. You will likely be climbing up on rocks, running through areas with cactus or loose twigs and thorns and we want you to be safe and comfortable. Our goal is to get you guys enjoying each other and playing together. It's super difficult to get lost in each other if you're worried about your feet or stressed about your cute shoes.

Mindset

Take some time before your engagement session just to be together. Go out to coffee, snuggle up on your couch- whatever. Your engagement session will be a lot of fun and our couples are constantly raving about how the experience was so good for them amidst all of the wedding craziness... but it's so important that you come into your e-sesh on the same team. During your time with us, let your focus be on each other and connection, rather than the end goal being "pretty pictures". We promise that if you get lost in each other, you'll come away with some really gorgeous photographs.
